Porto's metro

Porto's metropolitan system is modern and safe, and is the recommended choice for getting around the city center. However, it should be taken into account that there are not many stations in the city center, which can lead to walking, sometimes uphill, with your equipment.

Porto Airport is connected to the Metro Line E (Purple Line), which offers service throughout the day with trains departing approximately every 20 minutes. The first train leaves at 6 am, and the service runs until midnight, with the travel time to the city center being about 40 minutes. It is recommended to check the operating hours

If you arrive outside the operating hours of the metro, you can use a night bus, taxi or Uber services.

Trindade metro station has automatic luggage lockers, a service that can be useful for visitors. For more details, you can refer to the

The journey from the airport to the city center passes through four fare zones, so a Z4 ticket must be purchased for €2.15. First you have to buy a loaded Andante card, which costs €0.60, and then load it as needed. Tickets can be purchased at staffed ticket offices or automatic machines at stations, but long queues during peak hours should be taken into account.

The list of stations appears in the ticket machines, with the stations relevant to the city center marked in red. The Andante card must be validated before each ride at the validation machine, and is valid for 75 minutes, so it's enough to get you to your destination.

The main stations you may use include:

São Bento

Jardim do Morro

Trindade

Campanhã

Note that there are two stations with similar names:

public bus

The public buses from the airport to Porto are a less recommended option compared to the metro or the Get Bus service, as they are less fast and comfortable. There are two public bus lines (601 and 602) that connect the airport to the Cordoaria station (near the Clerigosh tower) in the city center. The cost of the trip is €2.00, which is the same as the price of a trip in zones 4 of the metro, but these buses are slower and offer less space for luggage.

During the night, the 3M night bus line operates, connecting the airport to the center of Porto with an hourly service, starting at 00:30 and lasting until 5:30. The bus arrives at the A

Taxis

Taking a taxi is the fastest option to get to the center of Porto from the airport. The trip takes between 25 and 35 minutes, depending on traffic conditions, and costs between 25 and 30 euros. To ensure safety and reliable service, it is recommended to use only authorized taxis or taxis of the UBER service. Make sure that the driver activates the taxi meter while driving.

It should be taken into account that the fares are displayed inside the taxi and include additional fees for luggage and waiting.

Transportation in a private car with a driver waiting at the airport

This service starts at just €30, making it an inexpensive option, often priced similar to or slightly higher than UBER, but cheaper than a regular taxi. I recommend using a transfer service through GetYourGuide,

If you still arrived in the city with a car, the recommended parking company is EMPARK. You will find its organized parking lots throughout the city, and a map of the parking lot locations is available on the company's website:

In Porto, the best way to get around is mainly by walking, especially in the city center where the streets are narrow and public transport is very convenient. If you plan to visit many attractions in the city and use public transportation, you should consider purchasing
