The two cities are about 315 kilometers apart if you drive a direct route, without stops, something like three hours.

Traveling from Lisbon to Porto by train: the best option in terms of time, cost and comfort.

There are up to 12 daily train departures between Porto and Lisbon of course depending on the day and holiday.
The journey is quick and usually takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes, while the standard options can take closer to three hours.

The train stations are optimally located in both cities, which shortens travel times.
Prices vary greatly depending on the season and demand and how far in advance you order.
In general, the price is a minimum of 20-35 euros, and often more during holiday seasons and other peak periods.
The train route is amazing and it's a great way to see a bit of the Portuguese countryside and you'll even get to see a bit of the coastline as you get closer to Porto.
Among other things, the train travels at speeds of up to 220 km/h. As of 2017, the trains have been renovated, introducing new interiors, clothing, seating, and features such as Wi-Fi and electrical outlets.

But you have to take into account check-in, luggage, security and flight delays (or even cancellations) and secondary travel times. In the end, the total time you save may be negligible - or you end up spending more time at the airport than you would if you had taken a train or bus.
Direct trip by car from Lisbon to Porto
The A1 highway is an excellent highway and easy to drive. Traffic is usually easy once you're outside the cities and keeping an average speed saves fuel. Make sure you have plenty of gas before you hit the road (as refilling at highway gas stations is expensive).
